There are plenty of jobs that don’t require any post secondary  (Note:  can you get rid of the big T so the following lines come right after the first, please.)school. But most of them are not discussed here because they do not meet the career requirements we discussed earlier, especially the goal of reaching $20/ hour. Certainly, these jobs may be the right starting place for now. Often, how- ever, it takes targeted education to get to reach your career goal. More and more jobs are asking for certification or credentialing. Do not rule out these options because, in the past, you were not successful with school.

Perhaps you wanted college and couldn’t afford it. Maybe you tried and it didn’t make sense then. Maybe unexpected demands of life got in the way. Or maybe, school wasn’t your thing and now, you are not sure you can grab hold again. But grabbing hold is just what it takes. Here is information about where and how you can do that.

Donald Rumsfeld was a former Secretary of Defense who made some big mistakes because of what he didn’t know he didn’t know. Here is what he says about knowing:

          There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know.

          There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know.

          But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t    know we don’t know.

We can ask questions about what we know we don’t know. The challenge is to figure out what we don’t know that we don’t know.

Maybe that includes a career choice that you never considered or ways to develop skills of which you were unaware. It might have to do with people who can help that you never imagined could be there for you.

Don’t be afraid of what you don’t know or of doing enough exploring to know more than you know now. Because of the Internet, it has never been easier to hunt for information. There is so much information it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. And then, once you get the information, you may still have to seek out people who can help you understand all the details
